Admission to OMSB Residency Training Programs

Requirements for acceptance in the training programs of the specialty:

 

·         The trainee must be a holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Medicine & Surgery or equivalent from a recognized university.

·         The trainee must have completed a year of internship.

·         The trainee must be medically fit for the training.

·         The trainee must provide three letters of recommendation in the field of interest from consultants/Sr. consultants with whom he/she has worked with.

·         The trainee must submit a letter of approval from his/her sponsor confirming their permission to release him/her to join the specialty training program on a full time basis (if applicable).

·         The trainee must pass the selection examination.

·         The trainee must pass the interview.

 

After the approval of OMSB, the education committees may add other conditions, oral or written exams, or tests for admission. The trainee are selected as per OMSB rules & regulations and available slots.





 

OMSB Selection Examination

1.      International Foundation of Medicine (IFOM): is a prerequisite examination for application to OMSB residency training programs

2.       The MFDS: is a prerequisite examination for General Dentistry and OMFS training programs.

Apply to a Program

In order for the Admission and Registration Section to make an admission decision, all documents must be received prior to or by the application deadlines.

§  Required Documents for Residency Training Programs:
1.  Approved Application Form (Signed and stamped by sponsor-if applicable)
2.  OMSB Declaration Form (Residency)
3.  Curriculum Vitae (OMSB format)
4.  Personal statements-based on your choices
5.  Photocopy of the Basic Science Certificate & transcripts (if obtained)
1.  Photocopy of the MD certificate & transcripts (Must obtain verification and attestation of MD certificate if the medical school is outside Oman)
6.  Photocopy of the internship certificate
7.  Photocopy of the ID card & the passport
8.  Three (3) recommendation letters in the field of interest from consultants you worked with
9.  Applicant Health Assessment (AHA) Form
10.  Photocopy of valid BLS and ACLS certificates
11.  Photocopy of any entry examination, international or other postgraduate examinations (if applicable)
12.  Two (2) passport size photographs with blue background

§  Required Documents for Fellowship Training Programs:
2.  Sponsor Approved Application Form
3.  OMSB Declaration Form (Fellowship)
4.  Curriculum Vitae (OMSB format)
5.  Personal statement
6.  Photocopy of the MD certificate & transcripts (Must obtain verification and attestation of MD certificate if the medical school is outside Oman)
7.  Photocopy of the completion of training and specialty certificate
8.  Photocopy of the ID card & the passport
9.  Two (2) recommendation letters from consultants/senior consultants in the field of specialty.
10.  Applicant Health Assessment (AHA) Form
11.  Photocopy of valid BLS, ACLS, PALS or other related certificates (all mentioned certificates must be valid prior to the start of the academic year 2019-2020- 1st September, 2019)
12.  Photocopy of any international or other postgraduate examinations (if applicable)
13.  Two (2) passport size photographs with blue background

  * Late or incomplete application will not be processed after the deadline of application.
  * Changing the priority of choices will not be considered after the deadline of application.

§  Act of Dishonesty:


All applicants applying to OMSB Training Programs (Residency/Fellowship) are expected to follow the admission rules and regulations. Applicants found to have misrepresented themselves or submitted false information on the application is ground for rejection of the application, withdrawal of any offered acceptance, cancellation of enrollment, or other appropriate disciplinary action.

General Instructions

The names of the Residents accepted for admission in one of the training programs, together with their “Release Qarars”, shall be sent to OMSB. Registration must be completed no later than one month prior to the beginning of the training year. 

All Residents who are enrolled in one of the OMSB Medical Specialty Training Program and who wish to continue their training must register with the OMSB one month prior to the beginning of each training year. A Resident is not permitted to register in more than one training program of the OMSB at a time. 

The Resident or his/her sponsor shall undertake to pay the annual training fees prescribed by the OMSB.
